Zulu king, Goodwill Zwelithini, has denied whipping up sentiments that led to the ongoing xenophobic killings and attacks in South Africa.
His denial on Monday came days after he was accused of triggering violence that has left several African immigrants, including Nigerians, dead and forced thousands to abandon their homes and businesses.
“This violence directed at our brothers and sister is shameful,” he reportedly told a tribal gathering of Zulus in Durban.
“I’m certain that the people who were listening to my speech (last month), understand Zulu well and did not need interpretation,” he added.
