On 19 January 2015, Pinetown Regional Court convicted and sentenced Sibusiso Bukwini (26) to 15 years imprisonment for rape that he committed in 2013 in Fannin Road, Wyebank. On 23 July 2013, a 10-year-old girl arrived at her home from school and there was nobody at home. Bukwini, who is the neighbour, invited himself into the 10-year-old girl’s home and raped her.
She was rescued by a relative who arrived after the incident. A case of rape was opened at Pinetown Police Station and it was transferred to Pinetown Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for investigation. Bukwini was arrested and charged for rape. He was convicted and sentenced after several court appearances.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended Pinetown FCS for their dedication by making sure that they gather all the evidence to present in court which led to the successful conviction and sentencing of the accused. “We will thorough investigate all the cases against the criminals who prey on our vulnerable children,” she said.
