Sanity prevailed when a Diepsloot taxi driver surrendered to the police after being on the run for over a week. The 26-year-old man was allegedly involved in a fatal hit and run last Monday. The incident occurred in extension four.
The suspect reportedly swerved out of the road and crashed his minibus into a supermarket’s steel door. Two women were trapped between his Toyota Quantum and the door. One victim died on the scene. The other one is still receiving treatment at a local hospital. She is reported to be in a serious condition.
It is said that after the crash, the suspect fled the scene. He drove to the police station, where he left his minibus without reporting the accident. The Toyota Quantum has since been impounded.
The suspect will be charged with culpable homicide, driving without a license and reckless and negligent driving.
He is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
