Police in Carnarvon are investigating a case of illegal possession of abalone. It is alleged that on Thursday, 15 May 2015 at about 01:00 police followed up on information of a white Nissan X-trail travelling with suspected illegal abalone. The vehicle was spotted in Carnarvon and immediately stopped and searched. Forty-seven bags of abalone was seized during the search and two men aged 34 and 43 years old were arrested. Both suspects are from the Western Cape. The Nissan X-Trail was also confiscated by police and the estimated value of the abalone is R1 million.
The Carnarvon Cluster Commander, Lt Col LD Komaitsile commended the members for their quick and swift response that led to this superb arrests and confiscation. The suspect will be appearing in the Carnarvon Magistrates’ Court soon. The investigation continues.
