During a crime prevention operation on Sunday (2015-05-09) at about 15:00 the SAPS Operation Combat Unit members of Faure responded to a shooting in progress in the Ottery flats.
The members spotted a suspicious male with a firearm firing two shots and handing it back to a shorter male, dressed in black.
The SAPS officers pursued the suspects on foot and a shoot-out occurred between them. Both suspects were arrested and are detained at Grassy Park SAPS on charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and attempted murder. Their firearm were confiscated and handed in for further investigation.
The 25 and 44-year-old suspects will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court soon on the said charges. Police is further investigating whether the suspects could possibly be linked to any shooting and other serious crime.
In an unrelated case. On 2015-05-09 at about 12:00 SAPS Operation Combat Unit members of Faure were busy with patrols in Ottery area when they search a 22 year old male and found 292 packets of tik inside his pocket. The suspect was arrested and appeared in court today (Monday, 2015-05-11) on charges of possession of drugs.
The station commander Colonel Shawn Van Wyk says police will continue clamping down on crime and the perpetrators thereof. Police will maintain their zero tolerance approach in the combatting and investigation of crime. He commended his members for a job well and is thanking the community for their contribution in the fight against crime.
