Today Newlands East Police, Durban Flying Squad and Durban K9 Unit were following up on information of vehicles that were transporting stolen items. The two vehicles were spotted along Queen Nandi Drive driving towards Newlands West and were pursued and instructed to stop.
Two foreign national citizens were found with 25 television sets and were immediately placed under arrest after they failed account for ownership of the property. They were taken to the Newlands East Police Station and detained for being in possession of property suspected to be stolen. They will appear in Newlands Magistrates Court on 15 January 2015. Preliminary investigations reveal that the TVs were stolen from one of the shops in the Durban CBD during October 2014.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded police for the arrest and the recovery of goods. “We once again appeal to our communities to refrain from buying stolen goods. Those who buy stolen goods encourage these thugs to commit crime and many innocent citizens lose their lives in the process,” she said.
