A traditional healer, aged 33, was arrested by the KwaDabeka SAPS on 28 April 2015 at 12:30 in Pietermaritzburg. She had been in hiding after robbing a 39-year-old female of R132,000-00. It is alleged that the suspect had been operating her traditional healing practice from a residential address in Clermont before fleeing to Pietermaritzburg.
It is alleged that the complainant noticed an aert and heard from a local radio station of a healer who can assist with work related issues, financial problems bad luck and also multiply money through ancestors.
The complainant arranged to consult this traditional healer as the aert contained a contact number. She met the healer who then aised the complainant to pay a sum of R32,000-00 up front and further aised her to resign from her employment as her ancestors had directed.
The complainant was then informed to furnish a further R100,000-00 from her resignation money in order for the ancestors to multiply the money. It is alleged that the suspect stole the victim’s money and replaced it with counterfeit money and blank papers.
When the complainant realised that she was duped she reported the matter to KwaDabeka SAPS. Following an intensive investigation, police traced the suspect to Pietermaritzburg where she was apprehended and charged with theft. She will appear at the Pinetown Magistrates’ Court soon.
The KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni warned people to be careful of bogus healers. “We appeal to the community to be aware of such misleading aerts that promote people getting rich instantly as this is not normally the case. To many people are robbed of their hard earned earnings by people who make such claims,” she said.
