The Economic Freedom Fighters welcomes the outcome of the Bisho High Court which rejected efforts by Themba Wele to stop the EFF from removing him as party leader in the Eastern Cape. The EFF placed Wele under suspension and removed him as party leader for working independently from the EFF caucus and undermining all efforts by the EFF collective to inform his mandate.
Themba Wele could not appear in court or even provide heads of argument. The court called him three times since it was his application to stop the EFF from making sure that those who represent it, do so as part of a collective and on the basis of continuos renewed mandate. The court dismissed the case as frivolous and vexatious.
Wele will continue as an ordinary EFF MPL and his suspension will also continue until the disciplinary process has been concluded. Once more, the courts have demonstrated that indeed the EFF has a disciplinary grip on its public representatives, that those who represent it must always make sure that they adhere to its policies, discipline and collective mandate.
