The EFF has received a communique from Ethekwini Municipality that it is withdrawing and cancelling the offer of John Dube Stadium for EFF Freedom Day Rally due to renovations. The City communicated this to the EFF on Friday afternoon AT 17h00, 24 April, three days before the event. This is after the EFF has complied with section 205 and attended all the Joint Operations Meetings and paid for the venue.
The EFF further printed 2,000 posters and 30,000 fliers which have been distributed across the townships of Ethekwini. We have also arranged and paid for busses to transport our people on the basis that the event is taking place in this stadium.
This is a clear act of political sabotage aiming to undermine the progress and growth that the EFF is making in KwaZulu Natal. All the community meetings have been attended by thousands of people, including in institutions of higher learning. Instead of reacting politically, the ANC has resorted to undermine the EFF’s constitutional rights to freedom of assembly.
The EFF will be approaching the court on urgent basis to stop this act of cowardice by the ANC and make sure that no construction takes place until the EFF has completed its event on Freedom Day. We shall never allow anyone, inside and outside government, to undermine our any of the basic constitutional right like freedom of assembly.
These freedoms are integral to any democracy that respects human life to live is to fellowship. When we cannot fellowship as we choose, we may as well not live and that is why the EFF will defend this right with everything it has.
