Swift Police Reaction Leads to the Arrest of Two Suspects [press release]

Western Cape: On Friday, 05 December 2014 at about 15:30 members of the Mitchells Plain TRT acted on information received and confiscated four unlicensed firearms, drugs and dagga in two separate incidents in Heinz Park, Nyanga. Two firearms, a 9mm and a short gun, 32 units of dagga, 69 stoppe of dagga, 46 bankies of dagga and 69 half mandrax tablets were confiscated in Daisy Street. A 44-year-old man was apprehended.

While the members searched the house of the suspects, gun shots were heard and members immediately investigated where the gun shots were coming from. A man was lying in the street with gunshot wounds and members spotted two men carrying firearms running away from the scene. Two Z88 parabellum were confiscated from the suspects aged 24 and 29, who were also immediately arrested. The three men aged between 24 and 44 are currently in custody and will appear in Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 08 December 2014 on charges of murder, illegal possession of unlicensed firearms and drugs. One of the suspects is also a suspect in a Nyanga murder case which occurred in October this year.

These members have saved lives which would have been lost if these culprits were not apprehended. We also thank and appreciate community members who gave information about the arrested suspect which led to the arrest of two others. It is only through this partnership that this scourge of crime can be won.
