Estcourt Crime Intelligence members arrested a 30-year-old man for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Yesterday the police received intelligence of a suspect who was in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition at Nkunzini, Ntabamhlophe. They proceeded to his house, searched the premises and recovered a 7.65 pistol as well as a 9mm pistol with seven rounds of live ammunition. The suspect was then arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. He is expected to appear in the Estcourt Magistrates’ Court today.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded the members for the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the unlicensed firearms. “It is important that we remove these firearms from society as they are used to commit serious crimes including murders. The Community needs to be more vigilant and report those that have illegal firearms to police,” she said.
