Today, 21 January 2015 at about 06:00, a 31-year-old suspect was arrested by police for house breaking and theft. It is alleged that today at about 04:50 members of KwaDabeka SAPS were driving along Old Main Road in Hillcrest when they were stopped by a taxi driver informing them about two suspicious vehicles with occupants who were loading some items outside the bottle store in Old Main Road.
Police proceeded to the scene and upon arrival two vehicles fled the scene and a high speed chase ensued. It is alleged that at KwaNyuswa area the suspect jumped out of their vehicle and fired shots towards police upon which police returned fire wounding one suspect on the right thigh and the other two fled.
The members searched the vehicle and recovered liquor suspected to be stolen during the house breaking in Old main road in Hillcrest. The suspect was placed under arrest and was taken to hospital for medical attention.
The suspect will be charged for house breaking and theft and is expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrates’ Court immediately after his discharge from hospital.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni highly praised the police for the speedily arrests. “I would like to thank members of the community for their continued support in the fight against crime in the province,” she said.
