LAGOS: AN opinion poll has suggested one of the most fiercely contested polls in the country’s history.
According to a survey conducted by NOIPolls, the regional polling agency, ahead of the elections, the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress are tied on 47 percent in terms of voters that said they were registered with the parties.
A total of 2 percent said they were affiliated to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) with the rest belonging to the smaller political parties.
According to NOIPolls, the South-South Zone accounted for the largest proportion of the respondents (88 percent) who are registered with the PDD while the North-East Zone has the largest respondents (75 percent) affiliated to the APC.
The opinion poll was conducted in the week commencing December 8 2014. It involved telephone interviews of a random nationwide sample. A total of 1 000 randomly selected phone-owning Nigerians aged 18 years and above, representing the six geopolitical zones in the country, were interviewed.
“With a sample of this size, we can say with 95 percent confidence that the results obtained are statistically precise – within a range of plus or minus 3 percent,” NOIPolls stated.
