NEWLY crowned premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns travel for their last encounter against Maritzburg United at Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday just to collect their title, otherwise this tie is just a formality.
Sundowns wrapped up their title midweek when they massacred city rivals SuperSport United 3-0 while former champions Kaizer Chiefs won 1-0 against University of Pretoria, but Amakhosi’s win did not make any impact towards dislodging the Brazilians.
While Sundowns travel to Maritzburg United at Harry Gwala Stadium, Chiefs will be hosting AmaZulu at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane in a match that Stuart Baxter would use some new faces in preparation for next season.
Smarting from a 0-3 drubbing by Sundowns, SuperSport United host struggling Polokwane City Stars at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday, Moroka Swallows clash with Free State Stars at Dobsonville while relegation bound Golden Arrows will be hosting Orlando Pirates at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Elsewhere across the country, Platinum Stars will entertain Ajax Cape Town at Royal Bafokeng Stadium while Bloem Celtic host stubborn Biest Wits at Kaizer Sebothelo in a match likely to see some sparks coming out.
The last match of the day will pit Mpumalanga Black Aces against University of Pretoria at Mbombela Stadium.
Some teams here will be fighting to end the season among the top eight while others will be fighting off relegation thereby making Saturday’s encounters exciting.
