ABUJA: EXPERTS from the African continent and beyond are meeting in Abuja in preparation for the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) 2015 World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-15) holding later in the year.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the meeting, Minister of Communication Technology, Dr Omobola Johnson, said the meeting would enable member states develop strategies on how to manage spectrum in their various countries.
She emphasized that the issue of spectrum was very important for Africa and thus urged member states to develop a strategy on how to manage it effectively for Africa’s benefit.
Johnson also called on delegates at the meeting to prepare views based on relevant technical studies and their experiences in the field of frequency spectrum management as it related to the African region.
She enjoined member states to collaborate and fight a common course for Africa’s ICT development. The African Telecommunication Union (ATU) in collaboration with the Nigerian government. The WRC is the apex body of the ITU that reviews and updates the radio regulation.
It is held every four years and its deliberation is based on the studies carried out within the four-year study circle as well as contributions from member states and regional bodies.
