Three men, Shane Ngutjane 21, Prince Lebogang Mahumane 23, Thulani Silubane 26, appeared before the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court today, 28 April 2015, facing a charge of possession of unlicensed firearm, murder and attempted murder. The suspects are believed to have been terrorising the community around Hazyview, especially the lodges and farms.
The appearance of the suspects comes after police in Hazyview received information on Friday, 24 April 2015, regarding a group of men driving in a Toyota Avanza on their way to commit crime in one of the lodges in Hazyview. They then spotted the vehicle and stopped it for a search.
One of the occupants, Mbongeni Dube aged 28, alighted from the vehicle with a firearm in his hand and began to fire shots at police. The police were forced to retaliate and as a result Dube was gunned down. The firearm which Dube used was seized for the purpose of further investigation hence its serial number was filled off. The remaining suspects, who were also wanted for a series of serious crimes ranging from murder, rape, and armed robbery, were cornered and busted on the spot.
On further investigation police discovered that Dube was on the list of wanted suspects for other serious crimes ranging from murder, rape, car-jacking, armed robbery and house robbery. He was also part of the gang that was terrorising people on the Sabie Road.
The suspects were remanded in custody until tomorrow, 29 April 2015, for legal aid representative.
