ABUJA: AT least 17 Nigerian citizens have been killed in a traffic crash in Dogon-Kukah village of Damagum Local Government Area of Yobe State.
Scores others sustained serious injuries. Head of accident and emergency unit at the Damagum General Hospital, Mallam Isa Yusuf, confirmed the horrific crash.
He said 17 corpses were brought to the hospital while 50 others are currently receiving treatment at the hospital. Yusuf said in line the Yobe State government policies, those on admission will be treated free for 48 hours.
A witnessed, Mallam Isa Yahaya said the accident was as a result of head-on collision involving a luxurious bus and a trailer coming from opposite direction. He said one of the front tyres of the luxurious bus exploded and ran into the upcoming trailer and both vehicles collided leading to the death of 17 people.
Yahaya added that residents of Dogon Kukah assisted in the rescue before the arrival of soldiers who were at the check point in Dogon Kukah village.
