SA Women Thump Zim in Cosafa Youth Games

The South African women’s side has moved closer to a tournament win after they defeated hosts Zimbabwe 5-0 in their African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Under-20 Youth Games clash inBulawayoon Sunday.

The South Africans now head the women’s competition with six points after winning both their first two games and can clinch the title with a point in their final pool match againstNamibiaon Tuesday.

Mosili Makhoali netted a hat-trick to take her to the top of the goal-scorers charts in the competition after she also found the back of the net inSouth Africa’s 3-1 win overBotswanain their opening game.

Linda Sepotokele and Gabriella Salgado were the two scorers againstZimbabwe, who could not muster a shot on target in the contest.

The match betweenNamibiaandBotswanawhich was scheduled to be played on Sunday has been shifted to Monday.

Zimbabweremain in second place in the pool with three points from their opening win over Namibia, and could take silver with a win over Botswanaon Tuesday.

Aside from the rescheduled match betweenBotswana andNamibia in the women’s competition, there is also a full round of four games in the men’s competition on Monday.

In Group A hosts Zimbabwe take on Swaziland at the Luveve Stadium (kick-off 14h00) looking for their first win of the competition after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Mozambique in their opener.

The other match in the pool is derby of sorts between the two Portuguese-speaking nations in the COSAFA region,MozambiqueandAngola, with the latter desperate for some success after they lost 1-0 toMalawion Friday despite dominating large parts of the game.

That match is at the Luveve Stadium at 16h30.

In Group B South Africa face a must-win clash withLesothoas they come to terms with their 6-1 drubbing at the hands ofZambiain their first game of the tournament.

Lesothoalso lost 1-0 toNamibiaso will want to get back to winning ways themselves. The teams clash at the Barbourfields Stadium at 16h30.

Before that the rampant Zambians will test themselves againstNamibiaat the same venue with a 14h00 kick-off.
