JOHANNESBURG: SOUTH Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) has congratulated Zambia for holding peaceful and successful presidential elections. Zambia’s ruling party, Patriotic Front (PF) candidate – Edgar Lungu-won the polls.
ANC spokesman, Zizi Kodwa, said his party commended the people of Zambia for their steady steering of the country following the tragic passing of former president Michael Sata in November last year.
“Fifty two years after independence, the country continues to be an exemplary on the continent demonstrating a stable and mature democracy,” said Kodwa.
“The ANC further sends our warmest congratulations to the Patriotic Front whose successful election campaign culminated in the inauguration of President Edgar Lungu. With the recent electoral victory, the ANC wishes Zambia greater resolve and impetus, as part of the family of African nations, to work towards the vision of the Africa we want now as we moved to 2063 – united, integrated, peaceful and secure, based on inclusive growth and sustainable development,” Kodwa said.
Meanwhile, President Jacob Zuma also expressed his commitment to working closely with Lungu to enhance the historical political relations between South Africa and Zambia, paying particular focus on strengthening economic and social cooperation.
