Brighton Beach detectives have offered a reward of up to R30,000-00 to anyone who may have information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of the suspects responsible for a shooting incident that occurred at Jacobs Hostel in Balfour Road on 8 March 2015. Mzomuhle Bhengu, 36, was within a group of people who were coming from the sports grounds after a rally walking into the hostel when shots were fired. Mzomuhle and a 32-year-old male sustained gunshots and were taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
A case of murder and attempted murder was opened at Brighton Beach police station for investigation. From the investigation, it is understood that shots were heard from within the crowd and the ballistic investigation also indicates that the victims were shot from within the group, however to date nobody has come forward. It is hoped that the offer of a reward will encourage witnesses to come forward.
