The seven suspects arrested yesterday (1304) by members from the Hawks and the Northern Cape Crime Intelligence Unit appeared in the De Aar magistrates’ court today for their alleged involvement in fraud and racketeering.
On Monday morning, 13th April 2015 police arrested the suspects (4 traffic officials and 3 civilians) in a takedown operation in De Aar. The suspects were charged for fraud, racketeering, corruption, contravention of the Road Traffic Act and issuing false drivers’ licenses.
The case was remanded to the 4th August 2015 and the suspects were granted bail of R2500 each (for the traffic officials) and R1000 each (civilian suspects). Details of suspects as follows :
