ERBIL: The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraqi Kurdistan (KDP), Nechirvan Barzani, has underlined the importance of the assistance provided by the UAE and the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) in alleviating the suffering of Syrian refugees and displaced Iraqis in the region.
Barzani extended his thanks to the UAE’s wise leadership for its great role in alleviating the suffering of the Syrian refugees and displaced Iraqis, and stressed that the UAE is a model they hope the future Iraq will aspire to be.
Barzani made the remarks when he received Dr. Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi, Secretary-General of the Emirates Red Crescent.
He praised the keenness of the UAE’s wise leadership to send delegations to oversee the direct distribution of assistance to the needy, pointing out that the visit by the ERC delegation was welcomed and appreciated by the Kurdish leadership.
The Prime Minister also conveyed the thanks and greetings of the Kurdish leadership and its appreciation for the UAE leadership and its people, wishing the UAE further progress and prosperity under the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Their Highnesses the Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates and its generous people.
Barzani explained that the Kurdistan region of Iraq currently hosts more than 1.5 million refugees and displaced people, in addition to the numerous families being displaced every day. He called for concerted efforts by everyone to help ease the suffering and support the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraqi Kurdistan in this respect.
