Pretoria: President Jacob Zuma has congratulated Tunisia’s President-elect Beji Caid Essebsi on his victory following the presidential run-off elections.
President Zuma also congratulated the people of Tunisia for their peaceful demeanour during the elections.
“To this end, the South African Government wishes for continued peace, stability and prosperity for the sisterly people of Tunisia,” the department of International Relations and Cooperation said on Tuesday.
Department spokesperson Clayson Monyela said President Zuma was confident that the cordial relations between South Africa and Tunisia will be further strengthened during Essebsi’s term.
Essebsi, 88, is the first president freely elected by the Tunisians since the country’s independence in 1956.
