LAGOS: THE police are an apolitical force and would ensure the upcoming general elections are held under a peaceful environment, senior officials said.
Commissioner of Police: Election Planning and Monitoring, Ghazzali Muhammed, rejected sentiments the force was partisan.
“The police can never be partisan, which is why we are here as the leading agency to ensure that we secure the areas during elections,” he said at a just-ened workshop for police officers.
This would be deployed throughout the country for the polls.
“If the police were partisan, they would not have been deployed to ensure the security of election areas. All those that are voting have the party they want to vote for. The police officers would be there to ensure is law and order,” Muhammed stressed.
His sentiments follow criticism local security agencies were partisan and aligned to some political parties.
