The Portfolio Committee on Police will tomorrow receive a briefing from the Civilian Secretariat for Police on its action plan aimed at addressing the xenophobic violence experienced in some parts of the country recently.
Committee Chairperson Mr Francois Beukman says the Secretariat has been mandated to develop plans on how it will dissuade individual community members from engaging in acts of xenophobia. Mr Beukman says it will be interesting to see to what extent these strategies involve Community Policing Forums.
The Committee will also receive a progress update on how far the Secretariat has gone in finalising the 2015 White Paper on Police. According to Mr Beukman, the 2015 White Paper on Police intends to, among other things, develop an accountable, professional, competent and highly skilled police service as defined in the National Development Plan.
Budget plans of the Secretariat will also be discussed at this meeting.
