ABUJA: THE Minister of Youth Development, Boni Haruna, has charged the Peace Corps of Nigeria discharged their duties in a disciplined manner.
According to a statement by Agbagwa Theodore, Assistant Director of Press at the Ministry, the Minister gave the advice recently at Yola, the Adamawa State capital, when a delegation of the Adamawa State Command led by its Commandant, First Lieutenant Bello Kassim paid him a courtesy visit.
The Minister charged the officers of the Corps to be controlled and live by example in order not to disgrace the organization or bring its name to disrepute.
He emphasized that Nigerians need peace at all times but more importantly now that campaign is in progress and election is by the corner, stressing that the Peace Corps of Nigeria should not be left out in the quest of guaranteeing peace and tranquility during and after elections.
Leader of the delegation, First Lieutenant Bello Kassim thanked the Minister for finding time to receive them despite his busy schedule especially ahead of the election period.
“Haruna’s advice and words of wisdom will tenaciously be put into good use by members of the Peace Corps of Nigeria,” Kassim said.
The Peace Corps, accorded a special consultative status by the United Nations’ Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), is a non-governmental and uniformed youth organization that focuses on working with the local youngsters.
