A joint operation called operation Fiela comprises of members of the SAPS, SANDF, Home Affairs Officials, Metro police yielded positive results when more than 200 suspects were arrested in Pietermaritzburg and Durban areas. The aim of the operation is to target those places that are suspected to be hiding the criminals and to seize all the dangerous weapons that are in the hands of the criminals as well as wanted suspects. The operation started on Tuesday 5 May 2015 until the early hours of today. Among the arrested suspects, seven were arrested for being in possession of dagga, assault and resisting arrest.
During the operation, dagga, liquor, four cellphones, two overhead projectors, laptop and a TV set were recovered in Pietermaritzburg and Durban. The total value of the recovered liquor is R10 000-00. Most of the suspects were arrested for being in the country without the necessary documentation. They will be charged in terms of the Immigration Act.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded the members for the arrests of the suspects. “These operation will continue throughout the province of KwaZulu-Natal. The use of multi-disciplinary teams is complementing to our operations and the criminals will feel the heat,” she said.
