Western Cape: an integration of security forces together with other role-players from other departments led by the South African Police Service conducted an operation under the auspices of Operation Fiela in the early hours of this morning. This was one of several operations conducted in the province since the birth of Operation Fiela in April 2015 and targeted Philippi’s Brown Farm (Siyahlala)an area described as problematic in the Nyanga Cluster.
The focus of the operation included Drugs, Fire-arms, stolen goods and many other crimes that are troubling the community in that area. Police in concert with the SANDF, Traffics, Metro Police, Home Affairs conducted cordon and search as well as stop and search operations. During the operation, the following successes were achieved:
Nine (9) suspects age between 23 and 56 years were arrested for crimes ranging from Possession of Dagga and possession of suspected stolen property.
Thirty seven (37) straws of tik were confiscated.
Twenty Five (25) cell phones and partial cell phones were also confiscated.
One (1) 9mm ammunition.
The arrested suspects Eight (8) males and One (1) female are expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrate Court once they have been charged. The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Thembisile Patekile commended the work of the forces who worked on the ground and further vowed to rid all crime infested areas of criminal elements. General Patekile urged the community to involve themselves in lawful crime combating initiatives in their streets and neighbourhood.
