LAGOS: A WARRANT of arrest has been issued for the incarceration of Medical Director of Federal Medical Centre in Owo, Ondo State, Dr Olufemi Omotoso, for failing to appear in court for arraignment in a N1,2 bribe case.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charged Omotoso and his alleged accomplice Ayo Owoka, who is a lawyer, on a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, offering of gratification and giving false information to a public officer. The duo allegedly conspired to offer a N1,2 million bribe to operatives of the commission in February.
Owoka was arrested as he allegedly tried to bribe the officers and, on being questioned, confessed that the money was given to him by Omotoso to compromise the investigation into a case of contract inflation, abuse of office, stealing, embezzlement and misappropriation of funds at the Federal Medical Centre.
When the matter came up on Monday, Justice Lawal-Akapo expressed dissatisfaction that the arraignment could not take place due to the absence of Omotoso. He therefore ordered operatives of the EFCC to arrest Omotoso and present him in court on January 26 for the arraignment.
