´╗┐Nineteen Police Officers Who Were Arrested for Corruption and Defeating the Ends of Justice Were Suspended Without Pay [press release]

The 19 police officers who were arrested a fortnight ago for corruption and defeating the ends of justice which came as a result of their alleged involvement in escorting illicit cigarettes as well as accepting bribes from criminals, have been suspended without pay.

Constable Robert Chabane (37), Constable Khathutshelo Mpande (35), Constable Tebogo Thabo Matsebedi (34), Constable Madibana Josius Phochana (34), Constable Konanani Maureen Ramantswani (30), Warrant officer Tuwani Patrick Motsheketsheke (50), Constable Godfrey Avhasei Mathieledzha (34), Warrant Officer Morimisi Morris Hlongwane (50), all from SAPS Morebeng, and SAPS Makhado trio of Constable Ndivhuwo Robert Mabala (43), Warrant Officer Mpfariseni Moses Mudzusi (44) and Warrant Officer Thifhelimbilu Edward Mudau (51), together with Constable Sindy Khosa (30), Sergeant Ngoako Edmond Rakobela (51), Constable Phuti Ignatius Ramoroka (30), Constable Frank Chekela Segooa (34), Constable Mothapo Alex Modiba (30) and Sergeant Sepanya Petrus Moshidi (51), all from SAPS Maleboho, as well as Warrant Officer Ndanganeni Christoph Mukhodobwane (50) from Botlokwa SAPS, were arrested on 5 December 2014 following an intelligence operation led by the National Commissioner of Police General Riah Phiyega.

The suspended police officials are currently out on bail ranging from R 1000 to R10 000 and will appear again on 10, 16 and 17 February 2015 in the Morebeng, Makhado and Bochum Magistrate’s Court respectively.
