The IFP calls on the NFP to stop being an ANC puppet after the KZN Premier, Senzo Mchunu announced before the by elections that they will end their coalition. The ANC has continuously undermined them and called them puppets. It is evident that the relations between the NFP and ANC councillors had soured and that this had impacted negatively on service delivery in most municipalities.
” The ANC wins the by-elections, but with a reduced majority in the Mtubatuba Municipality. It certainly is a sweet victory considering all the resources and time that the ANC invested. Our people stood with us despite incessant onslaught by the ANC which despatched its MECs to campaign in the areas where there were by-elections under the guise of service delivery. Obviously the ANC will vehemently deny this but it remains a fact that it was not coincidental that most of the MECs all decided, precisely at the height of by-election campaigns, to visit these very areas,” said IFP National Chairperson, Mr Blessed Gwala.
“The IFP will use its victory to make sure that the Mtubatuba Municipality returns back to its glory. The IFP will hold the ANC into account by ensuring that services such as water, electricity, roads, housing and health services are delivered to the people. We will make sure that we monitor the performance of our councillors and government departments so that all the promises they made in the Mtubatuba are met,” continued Mr Gwala.
“This gives us a window of opportunity which we must not allow to pass by. We cannot rest on the laurels of last year’s success and sit down satisfied with our present positions. No way! We have to carry on working, and carry on building. Come 2016 the die is cast. It is a do or die situation. We need to take off our gloves and fight ruthlessly for the success of the IFP,” concluded Mr Gwala.
IFP wishes to express its profound gratitude to the people of Mtubatuba where it won seven of the nineteen by-elections. The ANC has 18 seats at the municipality followed by the IFP with 15, while the NFP, EFF and the DA are represented by one councillor each.
