LAGOS: A local telecommunications firm has announced a new indigenous phone application it said would help eradicate violence against local women.
According to Tingo Mobile, the mobile app was developed in partnership with the National Centre for Women Development (NCWD) to fight the scourge of insecurity and all forms of violations against women.
The company also said that the phone app would also help address the lack of access to information by women and trade facilitation.
The Managing Director of Tingo Mobile, Uwa Obaze, said the phone application, which is tagged ‘Market Box Nigeria’, would provide security solutions particularly for women and youths.
“The Market Box will empower women and youths in business and make the latest mobile technology and applications available to them thus creating at least 5 million new opportunities,” he said.
The Director General of NCWD, Onyeka Onwenu, commended the app saying that it would significantly address some of the security challenges faces by women.
She said that the app would positively impact on the lives of women.
“We are going to emphasise the use of these phone applications. With the security situation in the country especially in the North East, I hope the security agents are listening to us and that we can all put our heads together to see how best we can utilize this application,” she said.
