NEHAWU in the Western Cape ,will be convening a Bargaining and Campaigns Conference workshop on the 18-19 of July 2014 in Athlone, Cape Town. The purpose of the conference is to mobilise and prepare our structures for a looming battles in our various sectors where we are focusing our fight for better wages and improved conditions of service.
We have seen an alarming escalation in the exploitation of workers especially in sectors such as private old age homes private cleaning, security, gardening and services companies including in the public sector. While workers are struggling to keep up with the high cost of leaving, the fat cats at the helm of organisations and institutions are paying themselves obscene salaries and bonuses. They have total disregard for the dehumanising poverty and unemployment in our country.
This conference is the reaffirmation of our union’s commitment to the mandate of prosecuting the day-to-day struggles in defence of the economic and social interests of our members. We are pushing back against the deliberate lowering of living standards of the working class by the elite.
The conference will be attended by over 150 delegates drawn from our structures at all levels in the province and will be addressed by the 1st Deputy President of NEHAWU, Comrade Mike Shingange.
