NAIROBI: AFTER meting out a two year ban on star athlete Rita Jeptoo, Athletics Kenya is set to strip her numerous titles following the discovery she used performance-enhancing drugs.
The athletics body slapped the 2014 double winner for both Boston and Chicago Marathon road races with a two year ban from the sport as a deterrent measure to other athletes. Following the doping results by Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya, the athletics mother body, Athletics Kenya Chief Executive Officer Isaac Mwangi, immediately announced the ban of Jeptoo.
Mwangi said his athletics mother body was serious about doping issues arguing that any athlete found of using drugs in sport to enhance their victories would be banned. He said Kenya would fight to protect its reputation as Africa and world’s long distance super power. Jeptoo was yet to comment on the punishment.
