During the past week since 12:00 Sunday (2015-01-11) until 12:00 Sunday (2015-01-18) Mitchells Plain Cluster arrested 172 suspects for charges relating to various crimes including the possession of illegal firearms, ammunition and drugs.
On Wednesday 2015-01-28 at about 15:10 the Mitchells Plain Police were executing a search warrant at a house in Rockies Street, Tafelsig.
The members were granted permission to search the house and recovered a 9 mm pistol wrapped in a jersey hidden inside the cupboard.
A 53-year-old man was arrested and appeared in the Mitchells Plain Court on Friday 30 January 2015 on charges of possession of illegal firearm and ammunition.
On Saturday 2015-01-31 at about 17:00 the Mitchells Plain Police were busy doing patrols in Netbal Street, Beacon Valley.
The members stopped and searched a suspicious man and recovered a firearm in his possession.
The 19-year-old man was arrested and will appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate Court on Monday 02 February 2015 for possession of illegal firearm and ammunition.
Seven tracing operations were conducted in Mitchell’s Plain Cluster that led to the arrest of 172 suspects on various crimes.
During the past week 41 houses were searched for drugs, whereby 106 suspects were arrested.
Drugs confiscated are 28 heroine units, 156 packets tik, 110 mandrax tablets and 233g dagga confiscated.
