The MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Fikile Xasa will embark on a two day Back to Basics (B2B) Outreach Programme to the Sarah Baartman District Municipality (SBDM) this week from 19-20 November 2015. The focus of his visit will be in the Baviaans Local Municipality which is due for merger with Ikhwezi and Camdeboo local municipalities.
“Public participation platforms are meant to consolidate, monitor and respond swiftly to service delivery concerns by our communities. The MEC’s visit seeks to strengthen democratic institutions and improve service delivery through the implementation of the five pillars of the B2B programme,” said the Head of Department (HOD) Ms Nombulelo Hackula.
Ms Hackula added that B2B is a government programme to serve the people and communities of the Eastern Cape better by improving service delivery in municipalities. She said all municipalities are expected to implement the five pillars of the B2B programme namely, putting people first, delivering basic services, good governance, sound financial management and building capable local government institutions.
As part of the outreach programme the MEC will meet with the key stakeholders such as the troika, Ward Councillors, Ward Committees and Community Development Workers (CDW) and the management of the municipality. A door to door session will also be undertaken in the local community as part of the programme.
