On 29 January 2015, Phoenix Police Station members arrested a 42-year-old male for contravening Copyright Act.
Members were doing their normal patrol duties when they received information about a man who was manufacturing Ds at Playpark Place in Phoenix.
They proceeded to the said place and found the suspect. Members searched the house and confiscated a stack burner machine as well as 1326 D copies that were found during the search.
The arrested suspect was charged in terms of Copyright Act and appeared in the Phoenix Magistrates’ Court today, 30 January 2015. The case was postponed to 25 March 2015.
KwaZulu-Natal, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded Phoenix members for the good work. “Illegal manufacturing of any product that is protected under Copyright Act is a criminal offence, thus police will fight it till the end,” she said.
