The man arrested in December 2014 in Sharpville, with a human head in a refuse bag, appeared in the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court. A 28-year-old suspect was arrested last year in December during Operation Festive season when police stopped the suspect who was holding a suspicious refuse bag.
During the stop and search the suspect dropped the load and fled the scene, but was later arrested. Further investigation led the police to the suspect’s shack where a vertebral column was discovered and taken to forensic laboratory for further investigation. The suspect was arrested and charged with illegal possession of Human Tissue Act No. 65 of 1983.
A total of nine mutilated bodies were found in the previous nine months with two suspects arrested on different cases. Eight of the bodies were identified by their families.
The case is postponed to tomorrow, 16 April 2015 for further investigation with suspect remanded in prison.
