NAIROBI: MACHAKOS County Governor, Dr Alfred Mutua, said that the county was building 260 new toilets throughout the region to improve hygiene.
He said that the toilets would be free to use and will be built using new cutting edge construction technology.
The toilets would be a departure from the norm in all major towns and cities in the county whereby counties built toilets and charge the public for use of the utility.
“The toilet is one of 260 Wananchi toilets that we are building in Machakos County. The toilets will be free to use and super clean,” said Mutua while stressing the fact that the toilets would be free of charge.
The Governor has been in the limelight in the recent past for breaking ranks with his party over the need for political rallies across the country and over the allegedly poor quality of the 33 kilometre road which was opened two weeks ago.
Mutua said that the road was constructed in record time of three months and billed it as the fastest constructed road in Africa.
Referring to the time taken to build the public toilet he visited, which is located at the junction of Machakos and Mombasa Road, he said, “the public toilet that has been built in less than ten days.”
