LAGOS: THE Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police Force is committed to ensure the upcoming elections are free from violence, an official said. Public Relations Officer of the Command, Kenneth Nwosu, expressed the force’s preparedness to ensure security for the poll scheduled for next month.
“Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police Force is adequately prepared for the upcoming elections,” he said. “We are ready to provide pro-active and adequate policing before, during and after the elections, even beyond,’’ Nwosu added.
In a briefing to reporters, he said police leaders had met to map the way forward ahead of the eagerly-anticipated poll. “The Commissioner of Police, Mr Kayode Aderanti, had met with Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers in preparation for the elections.”
“As such, people from Lagos should be assured that the police are prepared to ensure that this coming election will not be only free, fair and credible but will be transparent and free from violence.” His sentiments come on the heels of the leading contenders for the Presidential election signing an accord promoting non-violence and tolerance among their parties. However, there have been reports of interparty violence from some parts of the country despite the pledge.
