NAIROBI: TOP Kenyan athletes have set their eyes on the forthcoming International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships set for China in May.
Kenya, a traditional long distance running nation will contend with rival African marathon runners drawn from Ethiopia, Uganda and Djibouti, who also are in line to take the world by storm when compete in China.
Among the favourites is former IAAF Samsung Diamond League winner Jairus Birech, who made bold statements ahead of the China meet.
“My immediate focus is to win the World Championships and retain my IAAF Samsung Diamond League title.
“I have prepared well and I do not fear anyone. I know the meaning of a championship year,” the Kenyan said.
The 3000m Commonwealth Games medalist athlete will face stiff competition from Ezekiel Kemboi, Silas Kiplagat, Saif Saeed Shaheen and Collins Cheboi for the honours.
