ABUJA: PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan said his administration had focused its attention on the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the national road network.
The President stated this in statement released through his social media pages on Thursday.
“All around Nigeria, this administration has focused attention on the reconstruction, rehabilitation or repair of our national road network,” he said.
Of the 35 000 kilometers of federal roads nationwide, he said his administration we had constructed, rehabilitated or repaired 25 000 kilometres, making it easier to move across Nigeria.
Jonathan’s statement added that some of the roads were progress has been made include Benin-Ore, Vom-Manchok, Kano-Maiduguri, Lokoja-Abuja, Lokoja-Okene-Benin and Onitsha-Owerri.
He said the Loko-Oweto Bridge across the River Benue has almost reached completion stage and work on the second Niger Bridge was making progress.
“When completed, these bridges will shorten the journey of those traveling between North and South with attendant reduction in travel costs,” the President said.
Jonathan said his administration believed in the unity of the nation and continue to invest in infrastructure such as roads, railways, airports and river dredging.
