Hundreds to run Kisimu City race

NAIROBI: KENYA’S Safaricom Kisumu City Marathon has attracted long distance runners drawn from the region.

Athletics Kenya (AK) said 600 athletes would take part on the event penciled for Sunday.

AK Chairman for Nyanza North region, Joseph Ochieng, said among the hundreds of athletes, two professionals from Uganda, namely Noah Owuor and Ronald Sekito, would also contest in this annual race.

Ochieng said Kenya invited athletes drawn from neighbouring countries comprising Burundi, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.

“So far, we have only received entries from Uganda. However we are still waiting for a response from the other countries,” said Ochieng.

He said the Nyanza North region had raised Sh500 000 for the race while the winner would pocket Sh200 000 with second and third winner walking away with Sh100 000 and Sh50 000.

Ochieng said the registration fee for the race was Sh500.
