Four suspects between the ages of 21 and 37 appeared in court today on various charges of possession of suspected stolen property and housebreaking in the Mount Road and Humewood precincts.
The three male suspects between the ages of 21 and 36 and a 37 year old female suspect were arrested on Sunday evening in the North End vicinity. SAPS members from Mount Road Police Station were busy with patrols in the area and noticed a suspicious white Opel Kadett motor vehicle.
The members stopped and searched the vehicle and found in the car various housebreaking implements including a stolen hand radio from a local security company.
The suspects were arrested and detained at Mount Road Police station on charges of possession of housebreaking implements and suspected stolen property. While the suspects was detained at Mount Road police station, the neighbouring Humewood Police Station received information that the four suspects being detained at Mount Road might be involved in housebreaking cases in their station area as well.
Further investigation led police to a dwelling at Wells Estate where several items of suspected stolen property was found. This includes a safe which was taken during a house breaking in Humewood policing area.
The suspects were thereafter positively linked to a number of housebreaking cases in the Mount Road area and appeared in court today ( 2014-01-14) in the Port Elizabeth Magistrates Court. The suspects remain in custody and the cases were remanded to 2015-01-15. The SAPS Criminal Record Centre will now establish whether the suspect can be linked to any other cases in the Nelson Mandela Metro area.
