This morning at 09:30 a 24-year-old suspect was arrested for house robbery at a farm in Mooi River. A firearm was also recovered and seized from the suspect. It is alleged that on 16 February 2015 the victim was attacked and stabbed violently by an unknown male who came into the house while she was busy with her duties. The suspect assaulted and stabbed her from behind. He further forced her into her employer’s room where he stole a firearm and fled. The man will be charged for armed robbery as well as assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and will appear at Estcourt Magistrates’ Court soon. The recovered firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to establish if it was used in any other crimes in the province.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended police for the arrest and the recovery of a firearm. “We once again make a humble plea to the members of the community to work closely with the police, so that criminals can be swept out of our community. We have a common enemy and that enemy needs to know that citizens will not tolerate criminality,” she said.
