On behalf of my management team and all employees of the South African Police Service, I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to Mrs Anne Selebi and her children on the passing of their beloved husband and father, Jacob (Jackie) Sello Selebi.
As a former National Commissioner of the South African Police Service, the late Mr Selebi is still regarded by many in the organisation as a colleague and friend. Our sincere sympathies are with all his family members, friends, comrades and colleagues, both within the SAPS, broader government, the African National Congress and across the globe.
During this difficult time for the family, friends and former colleagues, we reflect on his many selfless acts of sacrifice which ultimately contributed towards democracy in South Africa and freedom for all its inhabitants. His role in ensuring the smooth repatriation of ANC exiles back into South Africa and his sterling work on banning anti-personnel landmines, which gained international recognition, must never be forgotten.
General Riah Phiyega will today lead a delegation of SAPS to pay their respects to the family.
May his soul rest in peace.
