Four Suspects Arrested Shortly After a Business Robbery in Nqutu [press release]

Quick response by Nqutu police to a business robbery in the area led to the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of all stolen goods.

Two unlicensed firearms and ammunition used by the suspects during the robbery were also seized. Today, 19 December 2014 at about 16:00 five armed suspects entered a business premises at Nqutu area and demanded cash from the owner.

The incident took place while there was a heavy storm in the area. The suspects allegedly shot and wounded the victim and took airtime vouchers, cash and groceries before they fled the scene. Local police were contacted and description of the suspects was provided. Within ten minutes after the robbery, four suspects were arrested and stolen goods were recovered.

The fifth suspect is still at large and the police are still looking for him. The arrested suspects aged between 20 and 29 years are expected to appear in the Nqutu Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 22 December 2014.

KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded the members for the swift response which led to the arrest of the suspects.

“We are warning the criminals that police are out in numbers and they will make sure that they are brought to book. Our members will maintain this momentum throughout the festive season and beyond,” she said.
