In a Joint intelligence driven operation, dubbed Project Black Berry members from Crime Intelligence and the HAWKS arrested several foreigners of Zimbabwean, Mozambican and Malawian nationalities.
A group of 14 foreigners allegedly planned to break into a warehouse in Wadeville last night. The group arrived at the warehouse late last night in two x 8 ton trucks to steal a very large consignment of cigarettes. It has been determined that cigarettes they were attempting to steal from inside the warehouse is valued at 2,2 million rand.
They apparently deactivated the security systems but their efforts proved futile as the team of SAPS members, who had held surveillance on the property based on the intelligence they gathered, swooped in on them.
A total of 14 suspects have been arrested and several cellphones have been confiscate.
The suspects will appear in the Alberton court on Monday on charges of conspiracy to commit house breaking and theft and attempted house breaking.
