Five suspects aged between 17 and 34 are due to appear today, 29 December 2014 in the Mtubatuba Magistrate’s Court for murder. They were arrested by Mtubatuba police after they were linked to the killing a 27-year-old man at White City Khula Village, Mtubatuba.
On Saturday, 27 December 29014 at about 4:00 it is alleged that the victim was in the area at White City Khula Village when he was attacked by a group of people. He was suspected of being involved in an attempted break-in and was assaulted to death. He was assaulted with sticks and sjambok and sustained serious injuries on the body. A case of murder was opened at Mtubatuba police station for further investigation. Through investigation, five suspects were arrested and charged with murder. Sticks and sjambok suspected to be used during the attack were seized by the police as evidence.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni praised Mtubatuba police for swift arrest of the suspects who were allegedly involved in the murder. ‘We want to discourage the members of the community not to take the law into their own hands. We appeal to them that they must report suspected criminals to the police so that the police will investigate their allegations and arrest them, she said.
