The Congress of South African Trade Unions has been shocked by the fire incident in the Central Business District of Johannesburg over the weekend which caused claimed the death of two workers.
The fire was allegedly caused by an explosion in the Nedbank Mall along Albertina Sisulu Street.
It is reported that thirty Fire Fighters were trapped in the building, with many suffering from smoke inhalation.
And two Fire Fighters were certified dead at the scene.
COSATU conveys its heartfelt condolences to all colleagues within the Johannesburg Emergency Management Services and wish other Fire Fighters a speedy recovery after the smoke inhalation.
Counselling must be extended to all Fire Fighter to deal with the traumatic situation.
COSATU urges all building occupants to be responsible and take necessary pre-cautions at all the times to avoid such incidents which cause damage to property and a loss of human lives.
COSATU reiterates its message of sympathy to all affected fire fighter, whose lives were lost in the line of duty
